SouthernWorldwide.com – Patriotic artist Scott LoBaido is currently putting the final touches on what he claims to be the largest oil-on-canvas portrait of the American flag ever created. The artwork is being completed at the Great American State Fair in Washington D.C. LoBaido, an outspoken supporter of former President Trump, emphasizes that the message behind his massive rendition of Old Glory is intended to be entirely apolitical.
The artist, who hails from Staten Island, believes his creation might indeed be the largest oil-on-canvas American flag ever produced. He acknowledges his own political leanings but asserts that they are separate from this particular project.
“I am a political person, but that’s irrelevant from this,” LoBaido stated. “This flag is for everybody.”
He highlighted the Great American State Fair as an ideal venue for his work, noting the diverse crowd that attends. LoBaido observed Democrats visiting the fair, many of whom are aware of his political affiliations. Despite this, he reported that conversations centered on the flag, art, and its meaning, rather than politics.
“And they know me, and they know my politics. And we did not have any political conversation. We spoke about the flag, the art, the meaning of the flag … how special it is that we’re at this 250th birthday party anniversary,” he explained.
LoBaido also addressed individuals who protest the United States by desecrating the flag. He argued that the American flag itself is the very symbol that protects their right to protest.
“That American flag that men and women still die for is giving you the freedom to be whatever you want, and do whatever you want – protest whatever you want,” LoBaido added. “So that flag should always be up in the air.”
He detailed the dimensions of his painting, stating it measures 9 feet by 17 feet. LoBaido believes this makes it the largest American flag ever rendered in oils on canvas, calling it his most detailed oil painting of Old Glory to date.
The artist expressed that there was no better place to create such a piece publicly than during America’s 250th birthday celebration. He described the American flag itself as “the greatest work of art.”
“Where better to unveil, create in public, live, this greatest work of art — not mine, but the American flag itself — at the birthday party of the greatest place in the universe, America, and its 250th birthday party?” he questioned.
LoBaido anticipates an emotional unveiling of the painting. He plans to add the final touches on Independence Day, after which the artwork is expected to find a permanent home.
“I’m just going to put the final touches on it and I don’t know, maybe make an emotional statement, a little speech,” he said, noting his deep affection for the country and a proper rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
He mused about the possibility of the painting being displayed in the White House. “Would this not look great in the White House ballroom?” he asked. “I think it would be the most beautiful painting with the gold frame on it. Who knows?”
LoBaido mentioned that former President Trump already possesses several of his paintings. He humorously suggested that if Trump desires this particular piece, he “might have to open up his checkbook.” The artist also confirmed that he donates a significant portion of his proceeds to charitable causes.
