SouthernWorldwide.com – Barcelona has officially announced that prolific goalscorer Robert Lewandowski will be departing the club at the conclusion of the current season.
The Polish striker, who is set to celebrate his 38th birthday in August, was widely anticipated to seek new opportunities as his contract with the Catalan giants nears its end.
Lewandowski made the move to Barcelona from Bayern Munich in 2022 for a transfer fee of 45 million euros (approximately $52 million). At the time, the club was grappling with significant financial difficulties and was still recovering from the departure of Lionel Messi. Lewandowski was viewed as a crucial component in the team’s rebuilding phase.

During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in Barcelona securing three Spanish league titles over four seasons, including the current campaign, and one Copa del Rey. His goal-scoring record is impressive, having netted 119 goals in 191 appearances for the club.
“After four years filled with challenges and hard work, it is time to move forward. I depart with the satisfaction that the mission has been accomplished,” Lewandowski shared on Instagram, reflecting on his time at the club.
Lewandowski has not yet disclosed his future career plans in his statement. Speculation has linked him with potential moves to Juventus or to leagues situated outside of Europe.
This season, Lewandowski has seen a shift in his role under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick. The coach has frequently opted for the pace and dynamism of the younger Ferran Torres, leading to Lewandowski no longer being the undisputed first-choice striker.
Lamine Yamal, who has often played to Lewandowski’s right on the field, expressed his gratitude and admiration for his attacking partner. Yamal highlighted Lewandowski’s contributions both on and off the pitch.
“Thank you for everything, for your goals, your leadership, and for believing in me from the very first day,” Yamal posted on Instagram. “I have learned an immense amount from you, both on and off the field. You will forever be a legend.”
Barcelona has two remaining fixtures in the current season. The team is scheduled to host Real Betis on Sunday and will then travel to face Valencia on May 23.
