SouthernWorldwide.com – A Republican Senator has issued a stark warning, stating that President Donald Trump’s recent actions are detrimental to the GOP’s prospects in the upcoming November elections.
This sentiment marks a continuation of the strained relationship between Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Trump, which initially surfaced during the Republican efforts to pass a significant legislative bill last year.
The latest public exchange occurred Friday, following Trump’s critical remarks about Tillis on Truth Social, labeling him a “nitpicker.”
Trump asserted that upon being informed by Tillis that he would not seek re-election, the Senator immediately withdrew from the race and announced his retirement, a move Trump characterized as easy and cowardly.

Trump further accused Tillis of being a “quitter” and suggested he would now spend his remaining months in office “screwing the Republican Party” with his “RINO friends.”
Since declaring his decision not to seek another term, Tillis has been vocal in his criticism of the Trump administration, often targeting the President’s close advisors.
He recently attributed the controversial nearly $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund to U.S. Pardon Attorney Ed Martin, while pushing for 50-year mortgages and a bipartisan Senate housing package to Housing Director Bill Pulte. The push to acquire private companies using taxpayer funds was blamed on Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Furthermore, the dismissals of top generals at the Pentagon and the failure to hold Vladimir Putin accountable for atrocities in Ukraine were attributed to War Secretary Pete Hegseth.
SENATE GOP ERUPTS OVER TRUMP DOJ ‘ANTI-WEAPONIZATION’ FUND, PUNTS ICE, BORDER PATROL FUNDING
Tillis took to X (formerly Twitter) to state, “If opposing these things makes me a RINO, then I gladly accept that nickname. We need Republicans to do well in November, but the stupid stuff is killing our chances!”

In contrast, a statement attributed to a representative named Wales highlighted Trump’s achievements, stating, “In just over one year, the President has made our country greater than ever before with the most secure border in American history, the largest middle-class tax cuts ever, and the lowest murder rate since 1900.” The statement continued, “President Trump will continue to draw a sharp contrast with his commonsense agenda and the radical Democrats in Congress who allowed millions of illegal aliens to flow through the border, unanimously opposed the Working Families Tax Cuts, and are soft-on-crime.”
However, many of these decisions have caused significant unease among Republicans in the Senate. Most recently, the “anti-weaponization” fund jeopardized Congress’s efforts to secure funding for immigration operations throughout the remainder of Trump’s term.
Tillis was among several Republicans who strongly criticized the fund, established by the Department of Justice (DOJ), shortly after its announcement. He joined other senators in voicing their objections to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche during a private meeting.
Similar to his colleagues, Tillis expressed concern that the fund could potentially be used to compensate individuals convicted of assaulting police officers during the January 6th Capitol riot.
“Imagine that,” Tillis remarked earlier in the week. “A fund that is set up to compensate people who assaulted Capitol Police officers and other responding agencies, right? People that had pled guilty to physical acts against the president may actually be able to get compensated. How absurd does that sound coming out of my mouth?”
