SouthernWorldwide.com – A viral finger-pointing meme originating from a WNBA game has now made its way into the world of professional wrestling, specifically reaching WWE.
The gesture, first seen when Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham pointed at Phoenix Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner during a heated on-court incident, has exploded across the internet.
Its popularity even extended to the White House’s social media accounts, and on Friday, the move was replicated in the wrestling ring.
During a six-woman tag team match on “Friday Night SmackDown,” Chelsea Green and Tiffany Stratton, alongside Charlotte Flair, faced off against Jade Cargill, Michin, and B-Fab.
Green and Stratton, in a clear nod to Cunningham’s now-famous pose, stood in front of Flair and pointed at their opponents in a manner mirroring the viral meme.
Chelsea Green took to X, formerly Twitter, to comment on the crossover, writing, “When @WWE meets @WNBA.”
Ultimately, Cargill’s team emerged victorious in the match, defeating Flair, Stratton, and Green.
Sophie Cunningham herself shared her reaction to the White House’s involvement with the meme when speaking with reporters on Friday.
She commented on the widespread nature of the meme, stating, “I think everyone around the world is posting it.”
Cunningham acknowledged that many organizations have adopted the gesture, adding, “Every company has done it. So I don’t really think twice about it. I just think they’re another group posting about it.”
During an appearance on her podcast, Cunningham discussed the technical foul she received for the pointing gesture during the game against the Mercury.
She described the call as “the weakest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” emphasizing that she “didn’t say a word” and was “all I was doing was literally pointing.”
Cunningham explained her actions, saying, “I couldn’t help myself. I could not. She was losing her s— and all I was doing was literally pointing.”
