SouthernWorldwide.com – The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv issued a security alert on Saturday, warning of a “potentially significant air attack” that could occur in the city within the next 24 hours.

The U.S. Mission to Ukraine stated that it had received information regarding a potential significant air attack that could happen at any time over the following 24 hours.

The embassy consistently advises U.S. citizens to be prepared to seek shelter immediately if an air alert is announced.

Americans were urged to identify potential shelter locations before any air alert, to keep a supply of food, water, and medication readily available, and to follow the instructions of Ukrainian officials and first responders in case of an emergency.

They were also advised to take shelter immediately if an alert is issued and to download an air raid application, such as Air Raid Siren or Alarm App.

By early Sunday morning, the capital city was reportedly hit by a large-scale missile and drone strike, according to Reuters.

The mayor of Kyiv stated on Telegram that at least three people were injured and some residential buildings sustained damage.

This warning followed an earlier statement from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who indicated that Russia was preparing to launch strikes on Ukraine using hypersonic Oreshnik missiles. This intelligence was reportedly corroborated by Ukrainian, U.S., and European sources.

“We are observing indications of preparations for a combined strike on Ukrainian territory, including Kyiv, utilizing various types of weaponry,” Zelenskyy posted on X Saturday morning.

“The specified intermediate-range weapons could be employed in such an attack. It is crucial to act responsibly upon hearing air-raid alerts, beginning this evening. Russian recklessness truly knows no limits, so please safeguard your lives. Utilize shelters.”

He further commented that the deployment of such weapons would establish a precedent for future aggressors.

“If Russia is permitted to eradicate lives on such a magnitude, then no agreement will deter other similar regimes driven by hatred from engaging in aggression and launching strikes,” he asserted.

“We anticipate a global response, and one that is not reactive but preventive. Pressure must be exerted on Moscow to prevent the expansion of the war.”

Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukraine was strengthening its air defense capabilities as much as possible and pledged that “we will respond with full justice to every Russian strike.”

“We have granted permission for a parade,” he concluded his post, referencing the three-day ceasefire brokered by President Donald Trump earlier in the month. “However, Russia has no permission for madness. This war must be concluded – we require peace, not missiles to satiate the perverse ambitions of a single individual. I express my gratitude to everyone assisting in the protection of lives. Once again, please take care of yourselves and use shelters tonight.”

At the commencement of the three-day ceasefire on May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin had suggested to reporters that the conflict could be nearing its end.

However, on Friday, Putin vowed retaliation for a fatal Ukrainian drone strike in Starobilsk, an occupied town in eastern Luhansk. He claimed that Ukrainian forces had targeted a college dormitory in what he described as a “terrorist” act.

Ukraine has refuted this assertion, stating that it struck a Russian drone command unit in the vicinity.
