SouthernWorldwide.com – The dream of every footballer worldwide is to compete in the World Cup, representing the pinnacle of achievement for any generation.
However, hosting a World Cup in one’s home country elevates this experience to an entirely different level. The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) will have the unique opportunity to experience this when they kick off the 2026 FIFA World Cup at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Tyler Adams, the captain of the USMNT, made his World Cup debut in 2022 in Qatar. While the team showed promise, their journey ended in the Round of 16 against the Netherlands.
Despite the outcome in Qatar not being what the U.S. had hoped for, Adams is confident that the entire squad is ready to perform on home soil, fueled by the support of fans across the nation.
There is an abundant sense of patriotic pride within this group.
“Everyone truly comes together, regardless of whether they follow soccer or have never watched it before. There’s something special about hosting an event in America; they always do it right. I can’t wait for our fans to show up.”
The U.S. will commence its World Cup campaign in Los Angeles against Paraguay on June 12, as part of Group D play. For seasoned players like Adams, the pressure of the World Cup is a familiar feeling. However, as a team leader, he recognizes the need to guide those new to such high-stakes matches.
“You don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself,” he advised. “I feel that because we were quite young and perhaps a bit naive going into that first tournament, we were constantly thinking, ‘What’s next? How do we advance?’ You can’t dwell on that because it’s not within your immediate control. It’s about focusing game by game, moment by moment, pass by pass, where you can make an impact. For us, it’s about concentrating on the details of every single game, but taking it one game at a time.”
Undeniably, every player yearns to savor the experience of playing in a World Cup, whether it’s their first or final appearance. Adams admitted that this is challenging due to the intense focus on detail and the fierce competition, telling his teammates, “it’s over in a blink of an eye.”
Nonetheless, there is no question about how significant this particular tournament will be for those representing the Stars and Stripes. They will play their group stage matches in Los Angeles and Seattle, with aspirations to advance to the knockout stages, which will be held in various cities across the U.S.
“I think it’s wonderful because we’ve played in both of those environments before, and both of those cities boast incredible fan bases across all sports,” Adams remarked about looking forward to the U.S. faithful in L.A. and Seattle. “So, I anticipate the support will be immense. I hope it’s a crowd heavily favoring the U.S., as it should be for a home World Cup. I’m simply excited to play in front of friends and family.”
In an effort to foster the growth of the sport, Scotts, a leading lawn care products brand in North America, has partnered with Adams for its “Keep It Real” initiative. This program aims to broaden access to youth sports and green spaces, having funded over $432,000 and collaborating with “Every Kid Sports” to assist more than 2,000 children across 48 states.
As part of this endeavor, Scotts and Adams, who are highlighting the importance of natural grass for safer play, have been instrumental in restoring natural grass fields where the next generation can develop their skills. One such field was located in Adams’ hometown.

“When they approached me with this idea and initiative, it was straightforward. I believe one of the most crucial roles I have as a professional athlete now is to give back to my community. With that in mind, I am contributing to my community through this partnership, where we held a field day last summer and are now restoring the field I played on as a child. It was quite special to return home and see that a brand I collaborate with supports my vision and commitment to giving back to that community. I am truly grateful for that and for the partnership. We are beginning to achieve significant positive outcomes.”
