SouthernWorldwide.com – Will Ospreay recently expressed his unwavering confidence in his ability to lead All Elite Wrestling (AEW) should he achieve the AEW World Championship at the upcoming All In event.

Ospreay participated in what he described as his “dream match” on Sunday night at AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view in New York. He faced Samoa Joe in the initial round of the Owen Hart Men’s Tournament.

The victor of this tournament is slated to receive a direct shot at the AEW World Championship. This championship opportunity will be presented at All In, AEW’s most significant event of the year, which is scheduled to take place at Wembley Stadium in England.

In their match, Ospreay initiated with an OsCutter, catching Joe by surprise. The contest was a hard-fought battle, but Ospreay ultimately secured the win by delivering multiple Hidden Blades to Joe. Following his victory, Ospreay was questioned about his potential to carry AEW and become the company’s leading figure if he were to win the Owen Hart Tournament and subsequently the world title.

“It’s because I have that confidence and that belief I can carry those three letters,” Ospreay stated during the post-show scrum. “The middle letter, ‘E,’ that’s the standard, mate – elite. When everybody talks about elite pro wrestling, there is no one better on this planet. I believe that with my heart. I believe that with my soul.”

He continued to elaborate on his conviction, saying, “I know what I’m capable of. I know what I can do. This place, the motto, and it gets said over and over again, ‘this is where the best wrestle.’ No, mate. This is where the ‘Billy Goat’ wrestles. And I’m ready more than ever to take that top spot and to take AEW to new heights.”

Ospreay also shared his lifelong aspiration of performing at Wembley Stadium as a professional wrestler. He recalled that while his schoolmates dreamt of becoming soccer players, his own ambition lay in professional wrestling on such a grand stage.

The path to this point has not been without its challenges. Ospreay has reportedly battled back from a neck injury. He has also been working with the Death Riders, transforming himself into the formidable competitor he once was. This entire situation has evidently frustrated Samoa Joe, culminating in their highly anticipated match at Double or Nothing.

Looking ahead, Ospreay is set to compete against either Mark Davis or Jack Perry in the semifinals of the Owen Hart Men’s Tournament. In the other half of the men’s bracket, Swerve Strickland emerged victorious over Bandido at Double or Nothing. He will face either Claudio Castagnoli or Brody King in his semifinal match.

The finals of the Owen Hart Cup tournament are scheduled to be held at Forbidden Door on June 28.
