SouthernWorldwide.com – Former NFL star Aqib Talib has urged quarterback Russell Wilson to consider retiring from professional football and pursue a career in broadcasting.

Wilson, who has experienced a career with both significant highs and notable lows, helped the Seattle Seahawks secure a Super Bowl championship in 2013 and earned four Pro Bowl selections. However, the latter stages of his NFL journey have seen him play for three different teams in the past three seasons, a period that some believe has impacted his legacy.

Currently a free agent, Wilson is exploring options to join a new team for the 2026 season. Despite this, Aqib Talib, a former NFL cornerback, has advised Wilson to retire from the game.

“Do your TV thing, Russ. It’s over with, man,” Talib stated on “The Arena: Gridiron.” He elaborated, “Once you’ve got to decide, do I even want to play? I think you don’t really want to play. I hate when guys get to the later part of their career and then they start doing the bounce-around thing and they’re not going to win. There was no chip in New York. That’s just going to be another stop on your resume.”

Reports indicate that Wilson has attracted some interest from NFL franchises. He previously informed the New York Post that the New York Jets were among the teams considering him.

Furthermore, Wilson was reportedly considered a candidate for a broadcasting role on CBS’ “The NFL Today,” a position that opened up after Matt Ryan departed to take a front office job with the Atlanta Falcons.

Throughout his 205 career games, Wilson has accumulated 46,966 passing yards and 353 passing touchdowns. However, his 2025 season with the New York Giants was one he would likely prefer to forget.

During his time with the Giants, Wilson started three games. In a particular loss against the Chiefs, he made some questionable decisions. Jaxson Dart was ultimately named the starting quarterback. When Wilson entered the game for a few snaps while Dart was being evaluated for a concussion, he was met with boos from the crowd.

If Wilson signs with another team, he will be entering his age-38 season.
