SouthernWorldwide.com – The ongoing tension between wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has escalated, with the player now publicly criticizing the team’s general manager and head coach.
Aiyuk, who has been vocal on social media about his dissatisfaction with his current situation in the Bay Area, released what is perhaps his most inflammatory video yet. In it, he alleges that head coach Kyle Shanahan, widely recognized as one of the NFL’s top coaches, “has got a temperament of a f—ing toddler.”
Addressing his relationship with the Niners, Aiyuk stated, “We is not cool. We won’t be cool and I will never be stepping in that building except on Oct. 19.”
The specific date of October 19th is significant, as Aiyuk has not been secretive about his preferred NFL destination: the Washington Commanders. He and Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels were college teammates at Arizona State and maintain a strong friendship.
In a separate video posted on YouTube, Aiyuk revealed that he has parted ways with his agent. This decision stems from the agent also representing 49ers GM John Lynch, although Aiyuk did not explicitly name Lynch in this particular clip.
Aiyuk has previously expressed his discontent with Lynch. In the latest video, he claims to have shown up unannounced at Lynch’s home. He stated that his home security camera captured footage of a “big old white boy. White man. Former NFL safety” arriving at his residence.
Again, Aiyuk refrained from naming Lynch directly within the video.
Prior to this latest video, Aiyuk posted on Instagram with messages like “Go Commanders! Raise Hail! Take Command!” He has remained consistent in expressing his desired team, though his eventual move to the NFC East remains uncertain.
Aiyuk has publicly requested a release from the 49ers, a scenario that appears increasingly likely. However, Lynch and the 49ers have been reluctant to grant this, despite voiding the remaining guaranteed money on his four-year, $120 million extension. This action by the 49ers followed Aiyuk’s absence from rehab sessions for a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus he sustained in his right knee during the 2024 season.
In another video, Aiyuk challenged the team, saying, “If I’m crazy or if I’m cappin’, tell them boys cut me today and I’ll sign with the Commanders tomorrow. We’ll see who’s cappin’.”
However, the situation appears more complex than Aiyuk might be hoping for. In December, the 49ers placed him on the Reserve/Left Squad list after he failed to report to the team facility for his rehabilitation. According to ESPN, Aiyuk needs to file reinstatement paperwork, and the 49ers are not obligated to release him until this is done.
The termination of his contract with his agent, Ryan Williams of Athletes First, likely contributes to Aiyuk’s current limbo within the NFL.
Aiyuk first began voicing his frustrations with the 49ers earlier this month. In earlier videos, he described the 49ers as “dumb” and “stupid” for offering him his extension. He also asserted that the team is hesitant to release him due to concerns about his potential performance with another league team.
Before his injury in 2024, Aiyuk recorded 24 receptions for 374 yards. In the 2023 season, he achieved a breakout performance with 1,342 receiving yards on 75 catches and scored seven touchdowns, playing a key role in the 49ers’ Super Bowl appearance.
