SouthernWorldwide.com – Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has refuted California Governor Gavin Newsom’s assertions that the Justice Department is politically targeting him, stating that the governor’s claims are not “grounded in fact.”
Blanche’s comments were a direct response to statements made by Newsom last month. The governor had alleged that the Justice Department was investigating him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, under the direction of President Donald Trump.
While Blanche chose not to comment on any specific ongoing investigations, he unequivocally dismissed the governor’s allegations.
GAVIN NEWSOM CLAIMS TRUMP ORDERED DOJ PROBE TARGETING HIM AND HIS WIFE
“The only thing I’ll say about what he chose to do and what he chose to say is, I’m not sure his words are in any way grounded in fact,” Blanche stated during a news conference.
“He’d have to address that,” Blanche added, indicating that the governor should provide further clarification on his statements.
Newsom had initially claimed on June 15 that Trump had specifically directed the Justice Department to investigate him and his wife. The alleged motive was to undermine a potential presidential campaign by Newsom.
The California governor had characterized the investigation as a politically motivated “fishing expedition” orchestrated by Trump’s Justice Department. He maintained that both he and his wife had “nothing to hide.” Newsom further argued that the inquiry was aimed at him due to his consideration of a presidential run, stating, “To get me, he’s coming after my wife.”

“Donald Trump isn’t just coming after me because of my mean Tweets. He’s coming after me because I am considering running for President,” Newsom had declared. “Because he hates that I’ve consistently called him out – over and over again – for his lies and deceit. Donald Trump is simply the most corrupt President in American history.”
Blanche also rejected Newsom’s broader interpretation of the situation, pushing back against the narrative of political persecution.
“He can choose to say whatever he thinks helps him,” Blanche commented. “It doesn’t make it true.”

It is important to note that the Justice Department has not publicly confirmed any investigation involving Governor Newsom or his wife.
In the wake of Blanche’s remarks on Wednesday, the governor’s office responded by posting a meme on social media. The meme featured the caption, “Why you always lyin.”
The governor’s press office also issued a statement, asserting, “Trump goons know that it’s not a crime to lie to a reporter.”
