SouthernWorldwide.com – A Democratic lawmaker has unleashed a torrent of criticism against U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Clarence Thomas, labeling him an “Uncle Tom” and a “lynchman” in a powerful video statement. The lawmaker also accused Justice Thomas of betraying the Black community.

These strong remarks were made in direct response to a Supreme Court ruling on redistricting issued on Monday. The ruling saw the justices overturn a congressional map that had been ordered by a court in 2023. This map was instrumental in creating an additional seat that favored Democrats in the upcoming 2024 elections.

The Supreme Court’s decision has opened the door for contested maps. These new maps could potentially eliminate two congressional seats currently held by Democrats. This development could have significant implications for Representatives Terri Sewell and Shomari Figures.

In her sharp rebuke, Representative Juandalynn Givan argued that Justice Thomas has actively undermined the representation of minorities in Congress. She escalated her criticism by drawing comparisons to a slave trader and someone who has sold out their own community.

“He must’ve been the one that sold us out in Africa. He must have been. His ancestors had to be the ones that sold us out in Africa that caused us to be chained,” Givan stated on Facebook. She further elaborated, “He is the man who has turned us back into the hands of the master.”

Givan expressed her confusion and disbelief regarding Justice Thomas’s actions. “I don’t know what kind of Black he is. I don’t know what d— plantation this man came from. I don’t know what slave ship he was on. I don’t know what part of the slave ship he was on,” she added.

She directly accused him of aligning with the Republican Party. “You have sided with the Republican Party. You are a freaking straw boss… or d— Uncle Tom for these people. I just don’t get it,” Givan declared.

Justice Thomas, who oversees district cases pertaining to Alabama, has a consistent record of opposing the “racial apportionment” of congressional seats. He has argued that such practices are discriminatory and violate the principles of the Constitution.

His ruling on Monday effectively invalidated the map previously drawn by the 11th Circuit Court judges. This court-drawn map had offered a greater possibility for Black voters to elect their preferred candidates in the upcoming May 19 primary election.

Givan pointed out that the new ruling could render two existing seats null and void. This outcome might necessitate a new election to be held under the newly permitted congressional maps.
