SouthernWorldwide.com – Marxist political commentator and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker has strongly criticized New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, accusing her of indirectly supporting the Trump administration’s immigration agenda through her response to protests at an ICE facility.

Piker voiced his criticisms during a livestream on Sunday, focusing on the deployment of state police around demonstrations outside Delaney Hall, a detention center for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Newark.

Governor Sherrill had previously stated her refusal to allow unrest at the facility to serve as a pretext for expanded federal immigration operations in New Jersey. Piker, however, derided this statement during his stream.

“I refuse to let that happen in New Jersey. I will not give ICE a pretext,” Sherrill was heard saying in a news segment that Piker was reacting to.

Piker sarcastically mimicked the governor’s sentiment, suggesting her actions were counterproductive. He stated, “Yeah, I won’t give ICE a pretext. So I’m going to ensure that they don’t have to do anything because I’m going to do it myself.”

He further characterized this approach as the “meta” for the state and its governor, implying a lack of genuine opposition to ICE’s operations.

The political commentator then expanded his critique to encompass the broader Democratic Party, specifically targeting its centrist faction. “This is the centrist wing of the Democratic Party, ladies and gentlemen. This is what happens,” Piker declared.

His remarks coincided with ongoing anti-ICE demonstrations outside Delaney Hall. Activists have raised concerns about alleged poor living conditions and inadequate food for detainees, claims that the Department of Homeland Security has disputed.

Piker accused Governor Sherrill of aiding President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. He argued that the focus should not solely be on the activists protesting but on the conditions within the facility.

“The story is not the far-left activists continuing to rage at ICE in New Jersey,” Piker stated. “The real story is the horrifying conditions inside of this facility… and the governor acting as though she’s powerless to put a stop to it, and using what power she does have to basically work alongside the MAGA movement alongside the Trump administration, because these are state troopers in anti-riot gear on horseback.”

He further alleged that state troopers were mistreating residents of New Jersey. Piker also condemned the alleged mistreatment of journalists covering the protests, citing a report of an Associated Press photographer being injured.

“They’re doing Israeli occupying force s—. It’s disgusting,” he commented, drawing a comparison to the actions of an occupying force.

During his livestream, Piker also criticized Democratic lawmakers for their involvement in immigration policy. He contended that some members of the party have supported legislation and funding measures related to immigration enforcement.

“Democrats have absolutely participated in this process,” Piker asserted. He expressed a desire to change the system, adding, “Part of that also revolves around getting people elected who will make a big fuss.”

Piker stated his intention to “change that system.”

In recent months, Piker has been actively campaigning across the country for candidates endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America.

On his Sunday stream, he also expressed support for billionaire gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer. Additionally, Piker quoted Mao Zedong, the founder of the Chinese Communist Party, in his commentary.

Piker has previously faced scrutiny for his advocacy for progressive candidates and his activism concerning immigration policies.

Earlier in the year, he campaigned in New Jersey for congressional candidate Adam Hamamy, who is backed by the Democratic Socialists of America. Piker publicly defended Hamamy after media scrutiny regarding his background.
