SouthernWorldwide.com – Pro wrestling fans often have very high expectations.

The most dedicated fans want every match to be exceptional, the storylines to be perfectly logical, and the live audience to be intensely vocal, as if they’ve never attended a wrestling event before.

At times, it’s important for these fans to recognize how fortunate they are in the current era of professional wrestling. Not every period can match the entertainment value of the “Monday Night Wars.” Wrestlers are contending with injuries, fatigue, and the significant pressure of performing flawlessly at all times. It’s worthwhile to acknowledge the sheer volume of wrestling content available today and how good the fan experience is.

This brings us to June 1st. The past 31 days have offered a genuine treat for anyone who follows professional wrestling.

Events such as Clash in Italy, Backlash, Saturday Night’s Main Event, Double or Nothing, Fairway to Hell, Wrestling Dontaku, and Noche de Los Grandes were just a few of the major professional wrestling spectacles that took place in May.

Is it reasonable to consider May one of the most outstanding months in professional wrestling history?

WWE presented compelling premium live events, including Roman Reigns’ victories over Jacob Fatu on two occasions and Sol Ruca’s win of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. At AEW’s Double or Nothing, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Adam Copeland, and Christian Cage secured championships, while Will Ospreay’s ongoing narratives with United Empire and the Death Riders progressed at Wrestling Dontaku.

AEW also hosted Fairway to Hell at the SoFi Center in Florida, a venue also used for The Golf League matches. This event garnered acclaim and is slated to host Brawl at the Ballpark in July at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Concurrently, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide concluded one of the most captivating feuds of the past year between El Grande Americano and Original El Grande Americano. El Grande Americano emerged victorious in the match, with Chad Gable revealed as Original El Grande Americano. This bout was widely lauded as a potential match of the year contender, and we are only five months into the year.

May provided professional wrestling fans with some of the year’s most exciting action as major promotions build momentum toward the summer, which promises to be a dynamic period.

Therefore, here’s to May. It’s possible we won’t see another run of this caliber for the rest of the year.

Roman Reigns maintained his dominance, defeating Jacob Fatu in a Tribal Combat match at Clash in Italy on Sunday, successfully defending the World Heavyweight Championship. This marked the second encounter between the two within the same calendar month, with Reigns winning both bouts.

WWE appeared to be signaling a new chapter in The Bloodline storyline. As Reigns departed with Fatu and the Uso brothers, Jey and Jimmy, Solo Sikoa observed alongside his MFT stablemates Talla Tonga and Tama Tonga. This faction had broken away from Reigns following WrestleMania 40, after which Sikoa declared himself the new leader of his own faction.

Sikoa posted on Instagram, suggesting that Fatu should have remained with his faction rather than allowing the “Samoan Werewolf” to be seemingly neutralized by Reigns.

The “Tribal Chief” has remained undefeated heading into the first “Monday Night Raw” of June. As the King of the Ring Tournament commences, Reigns specifically called out LA Knight and Royce Keys, who are considered strong contenders to win and potentially challenge for his title at SummerSlam.

The latest “Dynamite” episode opened with a backstage segment from Double or Nothing, where Will Ospreay sought medical attention. He encountered Kenny Omega, who was also undergoing examination.

“My concern is that you cannot rely on those individuals,” Omega stated directly to Ospreay. “They do what they say they will do. Their intention was to harm me. They succeeded. … I would do anything for you, Will. To help you achieve your dream of becoming champion, there is nothing I wouldn’t do. It would have been incredibly easy for me to assist you.”

Ospreay, who has collaborated with the Death Riders to regain his full strength, partially agreed with Omega but noted Omega’s absence. He questioned Omega’s consistent presence on AEW programming week after week.

“I understand the appeal of the Death Riders. They are serious. They mean business,” Omega continued. “They accomplish their objectives. Therefore, I’m not advising you against trusting them. All I’m suggesting is to be cautious, as a friend.”

Jon Moxley then appeared and informed Ospreay that this was “good advice.”

Ospreay has advanced to the semifinals of the Owen Hart Men’s Tournament after defeating Samoa Joe at Double or Nothing. Should he win the tournament, he will earn a chance to compete for the AEW World Championship in his home country at Double or Nothing.

As he moves closer to achieving this ambition, the Death Riders may either support him in reaching his goal or attempt to derail it at the final moment.

Major League Wrestling launched a new season of “Fusion” on Saturday evening. The broadcast featured a packed double episode that generated significant news.

MLW World Heavyweight Champion Killer Kross issued an open contract for his next challenger. Matt Riddle seized this opportunity before an incensed Alex Hammerstone could make his claim.

Elsewhere, an undefeated Shotzi challenged Shoko Nakajima for her MLW World Featherweight Championship. Shotzi had previously defeated Priscilla Kelly and subsequently set her sights on the championship.
