SouthernWorldwide.com – A suspect has been apprehended by authorities following an incident at a Swiss train station where three individuals sustained injuries from a bladed weapon.
The attack occurred on Thursday morning at the Winterthur train station. Zurich Cantonal Police confirmed the arrest of the perpetrator, identified as a 31-year-old Swiss national.
Witnesses reported hearing the assailant shout “Allahu Akbar” multiple times with significant emotion and agitation. One witness stated, “About 30 meters away, I heard a man behind me shout ‘Allahu akbar’ five or six times, very emotionally and agitatedly.”

The victims, all Swiss nationals aged 28, 43, and 52, were taken to the hospital for treatment. The incident took place shortly after 8:30 a.m.
The suspect, who was arrested approximately five minutes after emergency services were alerted, is a dual Swiss-Turkish national residing in Winterthur. Regional police chief Marius Weyermann provided these details.
Weyermann further disclosed that the individual had previously come to the attention of authorities in 2015 for distributing Islamic State propaganda. More recently, he was placed in a psychiatric facility after making “confused comments” to the police emergency number.
However, the suspect was released on Wednesday after a doctor determined he was not a danger. This assessment preceded the attack at the train station.
Of the three injured, two were discharged from the hospital by mid-afternoon, or were on the verge of release. The third victim, a 52-year-old, remained hospitalized after undergoing surgery for a thigh injury.
Mario Fehr, the top security official for the Zurich region, described the event as “an evil act of terror.” He noted that the suspect was born in Switzerland and became a citizen in 2009.
It was also reported that the suspect had spent a significant portion of the past two years in Turkey. The investigation into the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack is ongoing.
