SouthernWorldwide.com – The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to captivate audiences across North America, with fans eagerly anticipating the start of the tournament.

For many young soccer enthusiasts, the dream of being part of this global event is becoming a reality, offering them a chance to be on the field alongside their heroes.

A heartwarming tradition at every World Cup game involves children aged 6 to 10 escorting the players onto the pitch before the opening whistle.

This initiative has a rich history, originating in 2002 when UNICEF and FIFA joined forces for the impactful “Say Yes for Children” campaign.

This year, Quaker Oats is not only serving as FIFA’s breakfast sponsor but also as the key sponsor for the player escort program.

Quaker Oats highlighted in a press release, “Together, we teamed up with over 30 community organizations across 11 United States host cities to provide 1,400 young individuals from underserved communities with the unique opportunity to walk players onto the pitch.”

In Atlanta, the chosen community organization for all eight World Cup games is Soccer in the Streets. This non-profit organization is dedicated to offering children throughout the greater Atlanta area the chance to engage with soccer, irrespective of their economic or social background.

This year alone, an impressive 2,500 children are expected to benefit from the programs offered by Soccer in the Streets.

Kaseem Ladipo, Executive Director of Soccer in the Streets, emphasized, “Access begins with making it free for all children, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to playing this beautiful game.”

Ladipo further explained that through a partnership with Common Goal, another prominent national organization, their free inner-city soccer league, StationSoccer, has been officially selected as the player escort for the World Cup games hosted in Atlanta.

The StationSoccer program features soccer fields strategically located near six different train stations across Atlanta, enhancing accessibility for its participants.

Ladipo shared that 150 of their young players will have the distinct honor of escorting players during the eight games scheduled at Atlanta Stadium.

“They will have the unparalleled opportunity to stand hand-in-hand with a FIFA legend or a future FIFA legend,” he added.

Among these 150 selected players are two who participate at the West End location.

Erica Holloman-Hill, a mother of four boys who are active in StationSoccer, shared, “It has definitely transformed our household into a football household.”

Erica admitted that she is still relatively new to the sport, but she has witnessed her sons grow significantly through their involvement in this free league, exceeding her initial expectations.

Her sons are Asun, who is 8 years old; Asir, 10; Asad, 12; and the eldest, Asim, who is 14. Erica affectionately refers to them as the “A-team.”

When asked about their favorite aspect of playing together, Asad quickly responded, “we get to teach each other skills, and we get to see how good they are.”

Erica recounted to FOX that she was initially hesitant when she first learned about the vision behind StationSoccer. However, after two years, her four boys are thriving in the program.

With the world’s most prestigious soccer tournament taking place in their vicinity, her two youngest sons are about to embark on an extraordinary experience.

Through the collaboration with Quaker Oats, Asun and Asir were chosen to participate in a ‘Breakfast Academy’ organized by Quaker.

“We learned a lot of things about fine grains, whole grains, half grains, water, fruit, and all the other components,” shared Asun, reflecting on the educational sessions.

Following their comprehensive learning about nutrition and demonstrating exceptional leadership both on and off the field, Asun and his brother Asir were selected to walk alongside players during the South Africa versus Czechia game on June 18th at Atlanta Stadium.

Asir expressed his excitement, tinged with a touch of nervousness, stating, “a little bit kind of nervous because I never escorted anyone.”

He revealed that he constantly thinks about the experience of being on the pitch, even when he is not awake.

“I think about it in my sleep, too,” he confessed.
