SouthernWorldwide.com – In a significant development for South Carolina’s political landscape, Palmetto State Democrats have selected their candidate poised to challenge incumbent Senator Lindsey Graham in the upcoming elections.

Dr. Annie Andrews, a pediatrician, emerged victorious from a three-way primary contest held in South Carolina on Tuesday. She is now set to face Senator Graham, a Republican seeking his fifth term, in the general election this November.

Andrews is a recognizable figure within South Carolina politics. However, the state has a long history of not electing a Democrat to the Senate since the 1990s. The last Democrat to represent South Carolina in the upper chamber was former Senator Fritz Hollings, who retired in 2005.

While unseating Senator Graham is a primary objective for Andrews, her broader political aim targets Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Andrews has publicly committed to “lead the charge to impeach and remove RFK Jr.” during a recent campaign rally.

It is important to note that the Senate does not initiate impeachment proceedings; rather, it serves as the final stage in the impeachment process.

Earlier this year, in an op-ed published by MS Now, Andrews asserted that while Kennedy may not bear sole responsibility for the recent measles outbreak in her state, “We’re kidding ourselves if we pretend leadership doesn’t matter.”

Andrews further elaborated in her op-ed, stating, “Kennedy has been a leading voice in the anti-vaccine movement for decades, which has led communities across the country to slip below the herd immunity threshold for the prevention of outbreaks of infections like measles.”

She continued her critique by writing, “Even if you replaced the name on the door at HHS tomorrow (which a responsible Congress would do), trust doesn’t snap back like a rubber band. It takes years to build and minutes to burn.”

Meanwhile, Senator Lindsey Graham was engaged in a competitive six-way primary battle, which included businessman Mark Lynch, on Tuesday night.

This primary contest was largely seen as a gauge of President Donald Trump’s endorsement influence against the shifting dynamics within his Make America Great Again movement.

Lynch, who positioned himself as a constitutional conservative and advocated for more representatives like MTGs, Gaetzes, and Massies in Congress, recently received an endorsement from Joe Kent, former National Counterterrorism Center Director under Trump. Kent argued to voters that Lynch was “the best postured right now to get the warhawk, neocon, Lindsey Graham out of office.”
