SouthernWorldwide.com – Mike Rowe, known for his work on “Dirty Jobs” and as the founder of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, believes that American history provides a clear explanation for the nation’s consistent rejection of socialism.
Rowe suggested that individuals who have lost pride in their country should look to its origins and development to understand its founding principles before considering socialist ideologies.
He commented on a Gallup poll indicating that only 53% of Americans express strong pride in the U.S., stating that a potential reason for this sentiment could be a lack of understanding regarding the nation’s history and evolution, or how other countries operate.
Rowe emphasized that while no one desires a lecture, appreciating the present requires remembering the past. He highlighted that the “American Dream” was initially just a concept in 1775, before it became a reality with the Treaty of Paris in 1783.
He further elaborated that the constant stream of negative news can lead to short-sighted judgments about the country. However, America’s founding narrative offers a broader historical context.
Rowe likened the cyclical nature of political ideas to a spinning wheel, where concepts that fall out of favor can re-emerge and then fade again as people experience their own historical moments.
He remarked that the Founders essentially risked their lives by declaring independence from Great Britain, pursuing the ideals of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
Rowe advised that a visit to other countries and a reflection on American history could help individuals reimagine their worldview if they feel unimpressed with the current state of the U.S.
Considering the recent electoral successes of socialist politicians in various states, Rowe observed that “history is a wheel” that continuously turns.
He humorously stated that he could not recall any instances where socialism had proven successful, adding that ideas that are unpopular at one time can later gain traction, only to decline again.
Rowe believes that while the most effective political ideas may not always win in the short term, they ultimately prevail. He pointed to history as evidence for why socialism has been consistently rejected whenever it has appeared.
When asked for suggestions for Republicans on how to counter socialism or for Democrats navigating internal divisions, Rowe quipped that he knows what the country absolutely does not need.
He stated that it would be overstepping his bounds to offer political opinions, as there are already many celebrities and public figures voicing their views on how both parties should act.
Rowe clarified that his current focus is on his work with mikeroweWORKS and BuildFreedom, which are dedicated to addressing the shortage of skilled labor and creating job opportunities across the political spectrum.
He described mikeroweWORKS and BuildFreedom as being “aggressively uninterested in your politics,” emphasizing instead the importance of a strong work ethic and the willingness to acquire in-demand skills.
Regarding his concerns about the impact of Artificial Intelligence on blue-collar jobs, Rowe expressed that he would not bet against AI pioneers like Elon Musk and their endeavors.
He noted that while a significant portion of the country is apprehensive about AI, the individuals developing this infrastructure are planning substantial investments for the future.
Rowe observed that Americans tend to become wary of the very industries and technologies they eventually come to rely on. Nevertheless, he remained optimistic that the nation’s democratic processes and innovative spirit would ultimately endure.
He concluded by saying that while there will be significant debate, the hope is that these discussions about the nation’s future will continue for another 250 years.
