SouthernWorldwide.com – The Trump administration has initiated a significant “summer surge” of federal law enforcement officers to bolster security in Washington, D.C., aiming to establish it as the safest city in America. This initiative is timed to coincide with the nation’s upcoming 250th Independence Day celebrations.
During a press conference held on Friday, officials highlighted the successes of the Trump administration in reducing violent crime within the city since the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force was established last year.
This collaborative law enforcement effort has led to a substantial number of arrests, with nearly 13,000 individuals apprehended. Additionally, over 1,400 illegal firearms were confiscated, 32 murder suspects were taken into custody, and 23 missing children were successfully located and returned.
As a direct result of these stringent enforcement measures, overall crime rates in D.C. have seen a significant decline of 26%. Homicides have decreased by nearly 50%, and carjackings have dropped by 60%. The U.S. Attorney’s Office further reported securing over 7,000 convictions within the past year.

Officials emphasized that a primary focus of the summer surge will be to put an end to the disruptive “teen takeovers” that have plagued D.C. neighborhoods and negatively impacted local businesses.

In a strong critique of the D.C. Council’s perceived inaction on the issue, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced a zero-tolerance policy. This new approach will shift the legal responsibility onto the parents of young individuals involved in delinquent behavior.
Effective immediately, federal prosecutors will pursue charges against parents under a D.C. statute for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Parents who allow their children to participate in these chaotic events, fail to supervise them, or permit them to skip school will be subject to fines, mandatory educational classes, and potentially up to six months in jail.

“Law-abiding taxpayers should no longer be burdened with the costs associated with parental neglect,” stated Pirro. “Parents, fulfill your responsibilities, or we will enforce ours. Ultimately, taxpayers will cease to subsidize the disorder stemming from a lack of parental oversight.”
The task force is reportedly aiming for “perfection” in its operations. Multiple federal agencies are set to deploy a significant number of personnel and advanced technological resources throughout the district to dismantle remaining criminal networks.
A formal request has been submitted for an additional 1,500 National Guardsmen to be deployed to D.C., which would bring the total military presence to 5,000 personnel.

To combat crime, the task force will also implement highly visible patrols, deploy drones, utilize tactical K-9 units, and employ helicopters.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has announced plans to increase its resources dedicated to targeting out-of-state drug trafficking cartels, asserting that drug dealers should be “treated like terrorists.”
Concurrently, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) intends to intensify its operations aimed at seizing illegal firearms being trafficked into the city from neighboring Maryland and Virginia.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) will double its presence of special agents on the streets. Their focus will be on combating identity theft and prosecuting individuals who engage in fraudulent housing schemes without paying rent.
In a stern message to any individuals contemplating political violence in the capital, Pirro declared that offenders would face “the full wrath of the law.” She announced that her office has filed a notice to seek the death penalty against Elias Rodriguez, 31, the suspect accused of murdering two young Israeli embassy staff members at the Capitol Jewish Museum on May 21, 2025.
