SouthernWorldwide.com – YouTube is implementing policy updates to enhance clarity regarding videos that utilize artificial intelligence to create realistic-looking content.
This initiative arises as social media platforms grapple with an increasing volume of AI-generated videos, images, and music.
Alphabet-owned YouTube announced on Wednesday that it will more prominently display an existing label on videos. This label will indicate if the content has been altered or generated using AI. For longer videos, the label will be positioned directly below the video player, just above the description. For shorter content, the disclosure will appear as an overlay on the video itself.
“If it appears real but was created with AI, viewers will know instantly,” stated Rene Ritchie, a YouTube creator, in a video explaining the new measures.

YouTube already mandates that creators disclose their use of AI for realistic content. The platform is also introducing tools to automatically detect and label AI-generated material.
YouTube explained that these changes are intended to “balance transparency with creator control.” The company clarified that the disclosure label alone will not influence a video’s recommendation status or its eligibility for monetization.
Other major online content providers are also taking steps to address the surge in AI-generated content, often referred to as “slop.” In April, the audio streaming service Spotify introduced a certification badge named “Verified by Spotify.” This badge signifies whether a song was created by AI or a human.
The company stated that this badge is designed to offer audiences “more insight and transparency into the music and artists” they engage with.
